“Merkado”, to be located at 1445 P St NW, in Logan Circle, DC will be a unique neighborhood restaurant & bar that will feature Latin cuisine with a Twist. David Winer, owner of “Grillfish” (originally of Miami Beach) in Washington’s West End, opened ”Logan Tavern”, one year ago, in The Hudson building, next door. His simple formula of developing restaurants that serve high-quality, fresh and flavorful food at great prices in an inviting and entertaining atmosphere has been a quite a success in DC. So much so that he was determined to lease the next available restaurant space on this P Street block. According to Winer “The Logan neighborhood has taken off residentially and the area needs more dining spots”. “Merkado” will be a casual Latin Grill with an Asian twist. The menu will feature items such as Sashimi Seviche, Wonton Crab Empanadas, Baja California Rolls, Asian Paella, Crispy Whole Fish, Slow Cooked Pork Mole and a make your own Nacho Menu, all at reasonable neighborhood prices. A large selection of both Latin and Asian beers as well as Sake and a full bar is part of the theme. The décor will be sophisticated urban Cantina crashes into a subtle Asian Tea-house, a concrete bar, tile work, glassed in kitchen, rice paper, and lots of low-slung seating are in the design plan. A late winter opening is anticipated.
